Coachella Valley Music festival just concluded with it's killer lineup this time around, including, the elite in all things music and a wide majority of international acts, including, London born, Damian Lazarus who we asked a few questions regarding his Coachella experience this past weekend in Indio, California. Lazarus plays many roles in the music industry as a DJ, label owner and now musician who's trademark is playing around with different styles and ideas in regards to music in which he believes he does best, and ultimately proved at Coachella, both weekends.
How was your Coachella experience? Any highlights?
The whole festival was an absolute joy - one of the most impressive, beautiful music festivals I have been to. For an event with such a varied and eclectic musical selection, the crowd was super cool. It was so good to wander around checking everything out, meeting new people and hanging out experiencing some great moments. My set on the Friday afternoon really helped me enjoy the rest of the weekend, the huge crowd was so into the whole thing, which was amazing considering my early set time, that it put me in a great mood for everything that was to follow.
Describe your DJ'ing style in 3 words?
Trippy, Deep, Future
What inspired you to get into music? As a label owner, DJ and musician?
My passion for music and for discovering new talent and new directions in the electronic underground. Playing the best clubs, parties and festivals around the world has to be one of the greatest occupations I could imagine.
Were there any acts you personally wanted to see at Coachella?
I really enjoyed Little Dragon, The Knife and Beck. I regret not seeing Darkside who I heard absolutely killed it.
Who and what inspired you to get into the music industry?
I used to listen to Pete Tong on the radio when I was growing up, he has been a big inspiration to me throughout my career and my cousin, Jason, who introduced me the art of collecting records.
Do you have any projects coming up?
I have just finished my second album which will be released early next year, the project name is Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons. I have collaborated with some amazing artists and musicians and the first single, Lovers Eyes, featuring the leading Quwaali vocalists from Pakistan, will be released in June.
I have some incredible new music coming from many different artists on my label Crosstown Rebels, including: Ali Love, Subb and Aphrohead and Francesca Lombardo, to name a few and there will be some very special events coming up this year with Get Lost, Rebel Rave and Day Zero.
