Dami Im, the winner of "The X Factor Australia" in 2013, has debuted at No. 1 on iTunes Australia with "Alive," her first single. As part of "The X Factor" grand prize, Im won a record deal with Sony Music. Her first self-titled album will be released in Australia on Nov. 15, 2013.
Im (who is 25) emigrated with her family from South Korea to Australia when she was 9 years old. She was declared the winner of "The X Factor" Australia in the show's Season 5 finale on Oct. 28, 2013. Im was mentored by "X Factor" Australia judge Dannii Minogue, who oversaw the makeover that transformed Im from an awkward singer to a stylish, more confident diva. This was Minogue's first year as a judge on "The X Factor" Australia. He was previously a judge on "The X Factor" U.K. (from 2007 to 2010) and "Australia's Got Talent" (from 2007 to 2012).
Im's "X Factor" triumph was a major comeback, since she had originally been eliminated at "X Factor" boot camp but was given another chance in the competition after she replaced contestant Matt Gresham, who quit the show.
Taylor Henderson (who came in second place) and Jai Waetford (who came in third place) were mentored by "The X Factor" Australia judge Ronan Keating. Henderson is not new to talent shows created by Simon Cowell. In 2010, Henderson auditioned for "Australia's Got Talent" as part of a duo with his father. Henderson (who is 20) and Waetford (who is 14) are also expected to be signed to Sony Music.
Im, Henderson, Waetford, Jiordan Tolli and Third D3gree (the Top 5 "X Factor" Australia contestants of 2013) will be on "The X Factor" Australia 2013 tour, which begins Nov. 23, and will go to Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Perth.
Im's "X Factor' victory had been widely predicted, because weeks before she was declared the winner, her "X Factor"performances had been outselling her competitors' performances on iTunes in Australia. The winners of "The X Factor" Australia typically have their first singles debut at No. 1 in Australia.
"The X Factor" Australia Season 5 finale (which aired in two parts on Oct. 27 and Oct. 28, 2013) featured performances from the finalists, as well as performances from One Direction, Katy Perry, Guy Sebastian (who was a judge on "The X Factor" Australia from 2010 to 2012) and Fall Out Boy, which performed with final three contestants Im, Henderson and Waetford.
