Dame Shirley Bassey received a standing ovation at the Oscars on Sunday after wowing the audience with a performance during a segment celebrating 50 years of James Bond films. The 76-year-old singer wearing a gold gown belted out “Goldfinger” in front of a mesmerized crowd.

The Bond tribute which included a montage of clips from the franchise was introduced by Oscar winner and former bond girl Halle Berry before Bassey took to the stage to perform the 1964 classic from the James Bond film of the same name starring Sean Connery.
The Wales born star has also contributed to two other James Bond movie soundtracks. She sang the title tracks for the 1971 Bond film “Diamonds are Forever” which also starred Connery and for “Moonraker” starring Roger Moore as Bond from 1979.
The latest installment from the Bond franchise is the 2012 film “Skyfall” starring Daniel Craig which was nominated for 5 Oscars. The film won for best original song by Adele and for sound editing last night.
As for Bassey her professional and personal life has been documented in a couple of films. She stars in the 2000 concert film “Shirley Bassey: Divas are Forever” which is available on DVD and she was portrayed in the television biopic from 2011 ‘Shirley” by Irish actress Ruth Negga.
