On January 18, 2011, Dame Elizabeth Taylor will be honored at the WIN (Women's Image Network) Awards as the "Living Legend Nominee" for her charity work. According to the WIN website, "For nearly two decades, she has been a leader in AIDS activism, including her founding role in the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), and establishment of The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF)."
The WIN Awards celebrate the creativity and leadership of women as portrayed in the media. Elizabeth Taylor, who starred in Giant with James Dean and Rock Hudson, is a very successful actress, with multiple Academy Awards to her name. She also starred in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cleopatra, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Other nominees include Jane Lynch, Diane Lane, and Susan Sarandon.
The mission statement of The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, as stated on the official website, is "to raise much-needed funds to fight the spread of AIDS, and to provide assistance for those who have already contracted the AIDS virus. Through various fundraising activities in which Ms. Taylor directly participates, such as specially hosted events and public appearances at fundraisers, ETAF receives contributions which are disbursed to other organizations and entities involved in the fight against AIDS. Each recipient foundation is first researched by ETAF and then personally selected by Ms. Taylor."
Visit the ETAF website to find out how you can contribute to Elizabeth Taylor's foundation.
