Dallas sewing: July 16 - 21

This coming week includes an assortment of activities. There are community markets for those interested in handcrafted items. Learn a new applique technique called ‘Back Basting Applique’. Beginning sewists can try a class offered by City Craft. Sewists interested in bridal wear can visit Friday’s trunk show at Distinct Elegance. Check out all the activities below.

Monday, July 16

  • All quilters and sewists are welcomed to free “Sit and Sew” every Monday at Quilter’s Connection. This is an open sewing session from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Contact 214-343-1440 or visit their website.
  • Quilt Asylum is hosting a ‘Back Basting Applique’ course. This is a needle-turn applique with no pins or freezer paper, but keeps your fabric from shifting out of place. Some experience in needle-turn applique is recommended. The class is from 1 – 3 p.m. The Quilt Asylum is located at 153 S. Central Expressway, McKinney, TX 75070. Tuesday, July 17

  • City Craft is having a ‘Get Sewing Beginner’s Basic’ class. Beginning sewists and those needing a refresher will learn machine operation and basic sewing techniques. Wednesday, July 18

  • Quilt Country hosts ‘Quilter’s Workout’ every Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Come and sew in their spacious classroom, bring lunch and stay all day. Bring any sewing project. There is no charge. Thursday, July 19

  • Grapevine Market is open for its 2012 season in historic downtown Grapevine. It is open every Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. until October 20. Friday, July 20

  • Distinct Elegance is hosting ‘Jade Couture Trunk Show’ featuring the latest trends in bridal wear. This is a beautiful collection that will inspire sewists who are interested in bridal fashions and accessories. There is no cost to attend the show.
