Dallas Purple Party returns this weekend

It’s almost time to grab your cha-cha heels, because this weekend the Purple Party returns to Dallas. A three-day celebration featuring six separate dance parties, Purple Party Weekend is the end-all be-all gay dance event of the year, kind of like the super bowl of dance parties. Each party takes place at some of Dallas' hottest clubs, like Plush and S4, and promises electrifying audiovisuals and some of the world’s hottest DJs. The Purple Foundation originated 14 years ago in Dallas’ gay community and was created to raise money for people struggling with HIV and AIDS. Purple Party has grown into one of the largest nonprofit all volunteer dance fundraisers in United States. “We’ve raised $550,000 for charity to date,” says Blake Baker, board president of the Purple Foundation. And by all counts, he seems to have a wonderful time doing it. So, does overseeing the dance-a-palooza ever get overwhelming? “Nah,” Baker says. “I’m an obsessive planner. In fact, I’m already working on next year’s event.” If Purple Party delivers even half the whallop it promises, those heels are in for a workout.
