Dallas protest: detain NDAA indefinitely!

News from the liberterrain…

Freedom groups from across the Metroplex will be gathering in Pegasus Plaza in Dallas on Friday, February 3, to protest NDAA.

As explained in the Libertarian News Examiner, provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) turns all of America into part of a worldwide battlefield in the War on Terror, authorizing our own military to detain any US citizen on American soil indefinitely, secretly, without rights, without charges, without trial, for the duration of the war.

But Collin County Libertarians explain on their Meetup site that it's even worse than that. "The statute is particularly dangerous because it has no temporal or geographic limitations," they write, meaning that it allows the US military to arrest anyone anywhere in the world at any time, now and in the foreseeable future, on mere suspicion pertaining to terrorism.

Demonstrations broke out around the country after President Obama expressed "serious reservations" but then signed the bill into law anyway.

February 3 has been adopted by a wide range of rights groups as a day of Nationwide NDAA 2012 Congressional Protest in which demonstrations will be held in many locations, including outside the offices of politicians who voted for the bill.

The Tenth Amendment Center reports that states across the country are also pushing back against NDAA.

"Provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act may allow for the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens," they report, "but the feds could find they get no cooperation from some state and local officials."

As many as ten states are believed to be considering legislation that would make it illegal for state agencies to assist federal agencies, including the US military, in the investigation, prosecution, or detainment of US citizens in violation of their state's constitution.

Additionally, Montana has launched an effort to recall all of its representatives who voted for the bill while Alaskans have petitioned their Supreme Court to block the indefinite detention provisions of NDAA.

And Ron Paul introduced a bill in congress to repeal NDAA's detention authorization.

In addition to the Collin County Libertarians, other groups who will be protesting in Pegasus Plaza this Friday include the Texas Liberty Campaign - Dallas County Meetup Group, Greater Dallas Oath keepers, Dallas Activism for Ron Paul, and the Dallas Occupy Together Community.
