Dallas police taze 'Lady Liberty'

A Liberty Tax Service employee dressed as Lady Liberty was tazed by Dallas police Monday.

Channing Gould, 19, was working for Liberty Tax Service as a mascot. Gould's job was to wear a costume and hold a sign on street corners drawing attention to the tax preparation firm. For two weeks, Gould had worked in his Lady Liberty costume without incident.

On Monday, however, Dallas police felt Gould was in violation of a city ordinance. The ordinance bans selling, distributing, or disturbing traffic islands and medians. Gould was performing his job while in a median of a busy intersection.

Police arrived on the scene, asking Gould to step towards the vehicle to be arrested. Gould refused, telling officers he was doing his job and to speak with his employer. The officer, however, felt Gould was resisting arrest and tazed him, twice.

The first attempt landed in Gould's back, but had no effect. A second shot landed on Gould's forehead, dropping him to the ground.

Gould was charged with resisting arrest.
