Senior Cpl. David Myers tragically died on Wednesday afternoon in Waxahachie when his motorcycle ran off a bridge. The officer was a 27 year veteran of the Dallas Police Department and well regarded due to his work with the local Patriot Guard Riders.

Myers, 56, was off-duty at the time of the accident and had been riding along West Road between FM 55 and FM 877 which was south of his home in Waxahachie. Investigators believe the accident happened around 1:40 P.M. when for unknown reasons the officer went off the wooden bridge and landed in the creek bed about 11 feet below.

The bridge at the accident scene is currently splintered and marked with spray paint.

“Senior Corporal Myers was a 27 year veteran of the Department and was assigned to the Traffic Section,” Dallas police said in a prepared statement. ”Our hearts and prayers goes out to his family and friends.”

Myer's wrote a prophetic update on his Facebook page at 6:50 A.M. on Tuesday when he described a close call with road debris he encountered on his way to work a couple hours earlier that morning; some of the debris hit him in the shin.

"If you don't believe in God as your protector, you better start," he wrote. "If you ride as much as I do, it is not a matter of IF something is going to happen. Just WHEN."

His Facebook page is robust with images of a man who was a father and grandfather and adored his family, his motorcycle, and traveling.

Details on whether he was wearing a helmet have not been released. As funeral arrangements are confirmed, this column will be updated.
