Dallas pet stores help fight puppy mills by taking Puppy Friendly Pledge

Pet stores in the Dallas area this week joined others across the nation as they pledged to no longer sell puppies and kittens in their stores, and instead offer animals available for adoption from local shelters and rescue groups.  The pledge, developed and promoted by the Humane Society of the United States, allows pet stores to show their support for the fight against puppy mills by refusing to sell puppies.  Without puppy stores to sell their puppies, puppy mills will eventually be forced out of business.

Pet stores in Chicago, Atlanta, Austin, Tuscon, Fairfield, Raleigh, Asheville, and Sante Fe have already joined the effort, as well as a number of stores in Arkansas, Wisconsin, and Maryland.  Each store that takes the pledge receives a placard that reads "We love puppies; that's why we don't sell them," as well as recognition on the HSUS website

A list of the independent Dallas area pet stores that have taken the "Puppy Friendly Pledge" is available online.  PetsMart and Petco stores also support animal adoptions rather than selling dogs and cats in their stores.

Petland stores throughout Texas still continue to sell puppies and kittens, however.  The only exception is the Tyler Petland, which is one of only a handful of Petland stores refusing to sell puppies and kittens.

Every one can do their part in the fight against puppy mills by buying pet food and supplies only from  puppy friendly retailers.
