The love for gospel music has constantly been proclaimed in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The metroplex is noted for the outstanding talent and music of its natives. Artists such as Kirk Franklin, Myron Butler, Tommye Young West, Darrell Yancey, Cherrie Thompson Scott, Gaye Arbuckle, Myron Williams, the late Ricky Womack, Sr., and numerous others have certainly made their mark in the gospel music ministry.
Dallas/Fort Worth has never experienced a lack of singers, songwriters, musicians, and producers who demand music excellence. The various soloists and singing groups display a plethora of styles and genres of music, but when all is said and done, spreading the message of God's saving grace is the common ground on which they stand. You will find soloists, choirs, quartets, duos, contemporary groups, spoken word poets, and gospel hip hop artists who support one another and know how to rally together when there is a need within their circle.
Many of the local artists celebrate anniversaries in ministry while others present special concerts and nights of worship to attend for spiritual edification. To travel and proclaim the goodness of God is every artist's desire. A number of them have been blessed to minister in various regions of the country, always acknowledging their home town.
Many musical young adults are on the rise and they are are bringing a new flair to gospel music. They are taking advantage of the opportunity to be original. Earlier this summer, Cym Hughes & God Phaktorr presented an incredible concert featuring Detroit's Kierra Sheard along with local artists such as Nai Washington, Amanda Maxfield, and Chadney Christle. Brennen John (formerly Nerdboi) presented an exciting night of great music featuring Amber Bullock as his special guest. Dana Hemphill celebrated her CD release in October with Michael Bethany as her special guest, and most recently, Norris J celebrated his CD release and birthday all in one with guest appearances from Bishop Ridge, Emory Anderson, Odell Bunton, as well as Norris' pastors of New Breed Christian Center, Darrell and Latonja Blair. These are just a few of the numerous events that have taken place in Dallas/Fort Worth so far this year.
As gospel music continues to be a source of inspiration and encouragement for all in this walk of faith, we can count on music leaders from Dallas/Fort Worth to be in the mix glorifying God and holding up a standard of quality and greatness.
