OK, let’s face it. I have been saying all season long. The Dallas Cowboys are not a good football team. All they did was lose for a fouth time on Sunday Night this season, and let the NFC East title slide through their fingers, and go home not making the playoffs.
Ohh sure, on paper they looked good, but all we have to do is go back to last year at Week 17, and talk about the same thing we are talking about this season after their 31-14 loss to the New York Giants.
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t address the cornerback position, and there were more than two that were available. And their secondary played just as bad as last season.
No action was taken by the Owner/Prisident/GM/Assisatant Coach, Jerry Jones.
Johnathan Joseph ended up in Houston with Wade Phillips (former Cowboys head Coach), and Nnamdi Asomugha ended up in Philadelphia with Andy Reid and the Eagles.
They didn’t even attempt to try for these guys. They were not on the phone. They didn’t help Rob Ryan out. How many years does the same thing have to happen, before Jerry Jones realizes there is not enough talent in the secondary of this team, no matter who is coaching on the defensive side of the ball.
There is no question the defense was the biggest part of the loss at the Meadowlands.
The defense hadn’t shown up for the past three weeks, and then add Tony Romo, and the hurt hand—this team was doomed before the jet set down in New York.
I give props where they are due, Romo stuck it out. Would you have liked to see Stephen McGee in there?
But Jason Garrett said it in his press conference at the end of the game sumed up the whole season for the 2011 Dallas Cowboys…
“We can look back and we have to correct the things that weren’t good enough. We didn’t play consistently good enough football though out the year, and we will go back and evaluate all that stuff to get better as an organization.”
Now, to all of 227 emails I received saying that I had no idea what I was talking about, the problem isn't consistency, it is...." You're wong. (the only jab I will take at my readers).
But this game wasn't about consistancy, it was just about getting beat. Flat out beat. This game was lost in the first half of the game. Reminded me of the Eagles game in Phili.
You can’t blame this loss on a bad 4th and 1 call, as Michael David Smith reported just a few minutes ago. This game was over by then.
Sorry—it was.
The Giants defense was out playing the Cowboys on all facets of their side of the ball compared to the Cowboys offense. In other words, they had any and all answers to anything the Cowboys threw at them.
It was a total dominate performance by the Giants. They played better, and the better team won.
And if there is any question about who should have went to the Pro-Bowl, all you have to do is look at this game, and find out why Eli Manning got the nod over Romo.
A nice drive to start the third quarter was nice to see, but by the time the adjustments were made in the locker room by the Cowboys, the Giants had moved on to a different scheme. I say this all the time, if I see it was obvious.
I also think the Giants may give the Atlanta Falcons a run for their money in Wild Card Weekend.
It was obvious the Cowboys were out manned, and out played on Sunday. Not the way you would want to start the New Year out—making excuses.
The stats, if they mean anything, went like this...
Dallas Cowboys:
Tony Romo: 29/37, 289 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT
Felix Jones: 11 carries for 30 yards
Sammy Morris: 3 carries for 26 yards
Dez Bryant: 6 catches for 70 yards
Miles Austin: 2 catches 20 yards
Laurent Robinson: 4 catches 61 yards 2 TDs
Jason Witten: 7 catches for 69 yards
New York Giants:
Eli Manning: 24/33, 346 YDS, 3 TD
Ahmad Bradshaw: 16 carries for 57 yards 1 TD
D.J. Ware: 2 carries for 19 yards
Victor Cruz: 1catches for 178 yards 1 TD
Hakeem Nicks: 5 catches for 76 yards 1 TD
Ahmad Bradshaw: 3 catches for 12 yards 1 TD
To sum up this season it was a season of mediocrity, that was no big surprise to this Examiner.
