The first Dallas Cowboys cuts are coming on Tuesday, and a number of Cowboys heads are on the chopping block as these cuts near. After the Cowboys big 24-18 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Aug. 24, a lot of the position battles began to clear up.
Heading into the season, it was clear that Tony Romo and Kyle Orton were the top two quarterbacks, but there wasn’t any evidence that the team would keep a fourth. There is a good chance that Dallas will cut either Nick Stephens or Alex Tanney on Tuesday, and the one they don’t cut will play most of the game on Thursday against Houston.
It is also probable the other will get dropped after that game, and if it is Tanney, he should make the practice squad with a good showing.
The wide receiver battle this season saw Dwayne Harris and Anthony Armstrong prove he belongs, and both Danny Coale and this year’s rookie Terrance Williams will stick around. Cole Beasley should also be safe, despite injuries, which means the lesser used receivers will get axed, including Anthony Amos, Eric Rogers and Jared Green.
At the running back position, Kendial Lawrence won’t make the team, but Dallas needs him this Thursday thanks to Lance Dunbar’s injury. Colin Cochart will end up gone, as Dallas has four other tight ends playing for a position on the team this season.
Other Dallas Cowboys cuts that should come this Tuesday include Ryan Cook, Xavier Brewer, Jakar Hamilton, Deon Lacey, Jason Vega, Jabari Fletcher, Jerome Long and Brett Maher.
