As I sit here this morning, wondering who the Pittsburgh Steelers are, I do wonder what the Dallas Cowboys would be like if Tony Romo had half the guts as Ben Roethlisberger.
Yes—I do know the Steelers went out of the playoffs in the first round.. I get it, but where have the Cowboys been? Take a look at the Steelers, and you really can see the difference in these two storied franchised over the past six seasons.
But imagine if you will, if the Cowboys had a guy like Ben Roethlisberger at QB.
Now before I get the emails saying how Romo is good, let me just say I that I agree with you. But you still have to ask what is missing?
I do think Romo is a very good QB without question, but what does Roethlisberger have that Romo doesn’t, that stops him from being great?
Call it guts, call it Jerry Jones, call it discipline, call it talent, or just call it is as I see it—Romo has the excuses. Now don’t get me wrong here, Romo isn’t the reason why they are not in the playoffs here in 2011-12 season, but a QB such as Roethlisberger would have gotten this team there. I believe that.
Some would argue the Steelers have less talent, but yet they still find a way to win.
But can you imagine if Romo was clutch like Roethlisberger?
I wrote before about, if Jason Garrett thought Romo was clutch enough. As I sit here today this morning after Roethlisberger lost that game in overtime, I still wonder of Garrett thinks Romo is clutch enough, and just wishes that he could mold a Ben Roethlisberger.
Just sit and wonder if Romo had the guts, and the attitude of a winner like a Big Ben.
No, really! Close your eyes, and sit and think about for just 1 full minute (the article will be here still be here after your done).
Now—wasn’t that nice? Wouldn’t it be nice to have to be able to be talking differently about the Dallas Cowboys today? We would be having programs praising Romo and his career, wouldn't we.
Does Romo have guts? Sure, but to come to expect what Rothelsburger did yesterday (Wild Card Weekend), in the final minutes of regulation for Romo and the Cowboys? I don’t think so. The key word there being expect.
Expect Romo to set them up for the win, while hobbling like a Weeble Wobble that doesn’t fall down?
Yea right—that would be an amazing sight here in Dallas!
However we don’t use that key word when we talk about Romo do we—expect.
Not to be confused with “R-E-S-P-E-C-T”! When it comes to the Cowboys—albeit the media sure does expect.
That word expect, makes a QB great instead of just good.
I say this because, the performance we see out of Roethlisberger week after week, is what fans want to see out of a QB in Dallas. Signs of a winner.
I often wonder if fans thought, if Romo was half a clutch as Big Ben is, would there would be a championship in Dallas?
We can look at the stats too. Here they are….
Tony Romo sense the 2005-06 season and remember he didn't even play in that first season:
QB rating of 96.9
Passing percentage of 64.5, 1672/2592 for 20834 yards
149 TD passes
4 rushing TDs,
72 INTs, 142 sacks, 41 fumbles, losing 19 of them.
Not too shabby, but look at Ben’s…
Ben Rothesburger sense 2004-05 season….
QB rating of 92.1
Passing percentage of 63.1
2090/3313 for 26579 yards
165 TD passes
14 rushing TDs
100 INTs, 314 sacks, 54 fumbles, losing 26 of them.
If you’re a Cowboys fan, wouldn’t you rather see those lower numbers, and have not ONE but TWO Super Bowls in the trophy case, and three AFC (NFC for Romo) Championships. Let’s not forget, as a rookie, Rothesburger went 13-0, for a total 14-1 including playoffs.
Rothesburger has been to the playoffs all but two seasons. He is also helping a storied franchise to continue that story of success, despite maybe not being the best QB however, for sure, he is headed to Canton without a doubt. If you think differently, you just don’t know football.
Don’t you think you would rather see the stats of Big Ben and the heart of a champion, than these great numbers of Romo?
All Cowboys fans know the history of Romo.
If Romo had half the heart of Rothesburger there would be a championship in Dallas. I believe that as, well as I bet many fans would too.
Now I am not hating on Romo, as much as I am sitting at a “Wishing Well” for Cowboys fans.
This storied franchise has become a laughing stock in the NFL, instead of having the respect and dignity of the Cowboys before Jones got a hold of it and threw R-E-S-P-E-C-T out the window while getting rid of the great Tom Landry, who by the way has a freekin’ highway named after him right out in front of Cowboys stadium!
Now granted that the 2011-12 season wasn’t all Romo’s fault. Jerry Jones has to be accountable for that as well—more so in fact.
And if you believe Dale Hanson (as I tend to do, seeing how he has been here as long as anyone else except maybe Randy Galloway of 103.3 ESPN who can any moment blow away in the wind), this pretty much goes back to Jerry Jones telling Jimmy Johnson to let him know about trades, and keep him informed, and not making him look like an idiot on national television, and Johnson basically said, that’s your problem.
Jimmy Johnson said it himself on NFL Fox pregame show…
“Some owners want to be the guy that all the players answer to. [Jones sees himself as] a walk-around coach, he’s overseeing everything and the players answer to him.”
Until that changes, Jason Garrett, and any other head coach who takes over the reins, is an offensive or defensive coordinator at best, who falls on the sword for Jones.
But also remember the fact, Garrett is paid a lot of money to fall on that sword. So don't expect a coach with a big name to grace himself in Dallas. Some of the most successful coaches (I.E. Bill Cowher, Jeff Fisher, and Jon Gruden) wouldn't be a thought because of Jerry Jones—they just won't put up with him.
But back to Roethlisberger—he is a proven winner. Supposedly a lesser QB when you look at stats, but has two rings, and has been in three Super Bowls.
Heck he is 10-4 in the playoffs. That is 14 playoff games. How many does Romo have?
This guy (Rothesburger) isn’t going to be No. 1 or No. 2 in stats, but he will be there when it comes to rings on his fingers, and Super Bowl appearances.
Heck even some so called expoerts, don’t even consider Rothesburger elite. What a joke!
Winning two of three Super Bowls—wouldn’t the Cowboys fans ecstatic in Dallas?
Again close your eyes and imagine it in Dallas…and fade to black.
