Dallas Bucket List #21: Savor true Neapolitan pizza at Campania Pizza and More

Mosaic covered tables and chairs line the sidewalk in front of Campania, which is named after the region of Italy where Naples is located. Inside are two small rooms with more ceramic tile tables. These tiles were laid by hand after being imported from Italy, just like a large amount of Campania’s ingredients. This is the closest to real Italian pizza you can find in Dallas.

Start with a salad. The “Basica” contains only a few ingredients, but like all Italian food, that is all it needs. True Italian food is created with a few fresh, flavorful ingredients that taste better than any imposture with piled-on frozen or artificial ingredients. The “Basica” salad is made of romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, and an olive oil based house dressing with a hint of red pepper.

The pizza has a thin, slightly crisp crust topped with fresh mozzarella and the ingredients of your choice. The “Sorrento” adds potatoes, mushrooms, sausage, fresh basil, and olive oil. The “Quattro Stagione” adds tomato sauce, artichoke hearts, salami, ham, mushrooms, fresh basil and olive oil. Of course they have “Margherita” and there are typical American toppings if you want to create your own. A small is enough for a hungry person, or split something larger if you can agree on one.

For dessert, “Pizza alla Nutella” is a must.  Made on a pizza crust, this treat is covered with a chocolate hazelnut spread, heated, and topped with a light whipped cream and powdered sugar. Make sure you have friends to share.

Campania’s original location is on the north edge of West Village in Uptown, and also serves sandwiches, calzones, and pasta, but because of the proximity to North Dallas High School across the street, they can’t serve alcohol. This means BYO favorite wine or beer and enjoy it with your dinner for a small corkage fee.
