While I’m usually the one who writes these food reviews, this time Russell feels he has to take over and make some comments.
The reason?
The barbeque and how good it tasted. As he puts it, it is the best barbeque he has ever had (or, at least that is since he was a young man and the cook he knew made barbeque smoked with Pecan wood too).
That was what got Russell first, the Pecan wood that they use at Off the Bone Barbeque
because no one uses that anymore.
However, Off the Bone Barbeque does and you can tell the difference.
As an aside, let me say the owner, Dwight Harvey served us one of everything on the menu. That meant Smoked Pecan Baby Back Ribs, Chopped Barbeque Brisket, Smoked Sausage, Smoke Chicken, Southern Potato Salad, Tri-Colored Spiced Pasta, Summer Cool Cole Slaw and Honey Spiced Baked Beans. To finish there was a chocolate and lemon pound cake.
As I write this review I can still taste all the flavors in my mouth and I am secretly smiling because I brought home some leftovers too.
Even better, I know my family will be happy since I ordered two pounds of potato salad and a chocolate cake to pick up on Christmas Eve.
Off the Bone Barbeque serves what they call gourmet barbeque, translation is family recipes and recipes that Harvey and his wife invented and now offer to the eating public.
Pork ribs are Harvey’s classic "Off The Bone," but the homemade sides could be a meal too.
They also cater and deliver in addition to having a comfortable little restaurant where you order at the counter and find a seat on the patio in the Cedar Sections of Downtown Dallas.
As for the Pecan wood concept and why it is different, not many chefs do that, it’s not that easy. But, when Pecan wood is used as Russell says “it’s the best.”
Why?
“It’s a little sweeter and it doesn’t overpower you with the smoke and it lets the full flavor of the meat come through enhancing the natural flavors.”
Enough said?
They’re open New Year’s Eve just in case you’re tired of turkey and dressing by then.
