Dallas area gets short end of rain event

Heavy rainfall along the Red River largely dodged Metroplex rain gages over the weekend, according to National Weather Service (NWS) data.

For instance, DFW airport logged less than an inch of rain during the period Friday through Monday. Locations just north of Gainesville reported up to four inches and Bonham received over three.

Some other Metroplex weekend rainfall tallies:

  • Arlington 0.86”
  • Dallas-Love 1.02”
  • Denton 0.71”
  • Fort Worth 0.87”
  • Grand Prairie 0.29”
  • McKinney 0.48”

While the precipitation was sufficient to give many area yards a decent watering it will do little to help area lake levels.

Barring widespread heavy rain, a slow fall in water levels is expected to continue for all north Texas reservoirs. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor places all of north Texas in a severe drought, with areas from McKinney to Fort Worth and points north and west in an extreme drought.
