Mayor Daley is betting a whole host of local Chicago products on the outcome of this Saturday's Stanley Cup Finals game. During a conference at the United Center, Daley said he wants to put Chicago-made products behind the Chicago Blackhawks against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Daley explained that he wants to put Chicago products, manufacturers, and small businesses behind the Blackhawks to show faith in the hometown team that they will beat Philadelphia for the championship.
"That's our motto in Chicago: 'I will,' said Daley. "We never, ever give up."
A partial list that was released includes the following items: 100 Al's Beef sandwiches, 3 dozen double cheeseburgers from Billy Goat Tavern, and 30 pounds of Terry's Toffee. The Lyric Opera of Chicago donated 2 tickets to Verdi's "A Masked Ball" and 2 lyric fleece pullovers and baseball hats.
And that's only a partial list.
Philadelphia's mayor Michael Nutter is not showing the same amount of zeal that Daley is displaying. Whether the Flyers win or lose the Stanley Cup, Nutter will volunteer at a community garden.
