Dalai Lama to visit Bay Area in February

The Dalai Lama, world-renowned teacher, peacemaker, and leader of the Gelugpa branch of Tibetan Buddhism, will be in the San Francisco Bay Area in February, and will make public appearances in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Santa Clara. His Holiness is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people and is committed to promoting basic human values, preserving Tibet’s Buddhist culture of peace and non-violence, and increasing human happiness.

On Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm, the Dalai Lama will be speaking on "The Nature of Mind" at Davies Symphony Hall, at the Civic Center in San Francisco..The event is sponsored by the American Himalayan Foundation and the Blum Center for Developing Economies at UC Berkeley.

On Sunday, February 23, 2014, His Holiness will be speaking on "How to Achieve Happiness" at the Berkeley Community Theatre, 1930 Allston Way, Berkeley, at 9:00 am. A news release from TANC promises that the Dalai Lama "will delve into the mechanics of the mind and its relationship with emotions such as anxiety and depression, which humans, by our natural instinct, strive to conquer, and peace and contentment that are our common aspirations." His Holiness will suggest how peace can be achieved in this globalized society characterized by "individual isolation and communal apathy."

Finally, the Dalai Lama will make his first visit to Santa Clara University to join in a dialogue with Lloyd H. Dean, president and CEO of Dignity Health, one of the nation's five largest health care systems on "Business, Ethics, and Compassion." The event will take place Monday, February 24, 2014, at 10:00 am at the Leavey Center on the Santa Clara University Campus. Tickets will be available online beginning January 28.
