Dalai Lama is concerned about disintegrating human values in India (Video)

The recent brutal gang rape and murder of a young woman by six men in a bus in India has sparked off shock and outrage across India and worldwide. There are now deep fears about the lack of human values among too many people in India. In an article on Jan. 2, 2013, The Tibet Post International has reported, His Holiness expresses concern over degenerating human values in India.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed deep concerns over degenerating human values in India in the aftermath of the death of a 23-year-old medical student who was gang-raped in New Delhi. While recently speaking on India's NDTV news channel, the Dalai Lama said the key to improving human values in the country in which he has lived the last 53 years, is through "Modernisation including education." He has said, "You should pay attention to thousands of years of tradition, which is neglected."

In reference to the development boom India has witnessed over the past two decades, the Dalai Lama has also said,"You have buildings, material facilities, but in the meantime there are incidents like this, corruption, and unjust activities. People must think more seriously about how to keep their thousand year old tradition." Meanwhile, angry protestors have converged on the streets of the Indian capital with expressions of anger over attitudes to women in India and with calls for changes to the laws on violence against women.
