Dakota Fanning nabs spooky 'Secret Thing' role (Photos)

Dakota Fanning might be only eighteen, but she's been acting longer than most. Even so, she's usually been cast in the good or at least redeemable girl roles because of her wholesome appearance and attitude (excepting, of course, for her turn as Jane the painmaker in the Twilight Saga).

Her latest new gig, though, sounds pretty dark indeed.

According to Variety, Fanning has been cast alongside Danielle Macdonald, Diane Lane and The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks the crime drama Every Secret Thing about a pair of young girls incarcerated at age 11 for murdering a baby. After seven years of imprisonment, the girls are finally released and, whaddya know, a bunch of children start to go missing around town.

Fanning and Macdonald are to set to play the recently released convicts, and the film will be directed by Amy Berg. Production will commence in New York City this March.

Interesting new direction for Fanning, no?
