ODESSA — A Pasco-County firm has gained national attention for its clean-energy efforts.
Dais Analytic (DLYT), which is based in Odessa, was among the private firms, universities and federal organizations that collectively submitted 575 clean-energy project proposals to the Department of Defense. DOD picked 27 from that bunch to develop, including Dais.
William Pentland, a contributor at Forbes magazine who writes about energy and the environment, reviewed the 27 selections and picked what he felt were the 12 most promising. He placed Dais No. 2 on that list, which can be viewed online.
“We are thrilled to see that Dais continues to receive this kind of high-level recognition,” says John Hagen, Pasco Economic Development Council President/CEO. “Dais has been our ‘poster child’ for the kind of innovative economic development we want to encourage in Pasco County.”
The Dais project is described as “Installation of a Nanotechnology Membrane HVAC System.”
Here are the details: “This project will demonstrate for the first time an advanced dedicated outside air system that incorporates a patented nanotechnology membrane that is highly permeable to water and highly impermeable to air. This design will allow energy-efficient dehumidification of outdoor air to occur without substantial temperature change and enable indoor humidity to be controlled separately from temperature, thereby reducing the energy required to manage DOD buildings.”
The demonstration site is Robins AFB, GA.
How big is the potential by clean-energy projects like the one Dais proposed? Consider this: DOD has 300,000 buildings on its various installations nationwide and spends nearly $4 billion annually on the energy to operate them, so even small, positive, incremental changes per building can accumulate substantial savings over time.
