In honor of Women’s History Month, we turn our attention to what Lissa Rankin calls, “the inner pilot light.”
The video embedded within this article is less than 19 minutes long, please view the video titled: The Shocking Truth About Your Health which is a TEDTALKS featuring Lissa Rankin.
Lissa Rankin spent a good portion of her life in pursuit of a medical degree but she no longer works as a physician. She shares in the video how after years of seeing 40 or more patients per day;
She became frustrated when she realized that diagnosing patients had to be more than merely a physical body assessment.
When tragic struck Rankin, she began to grow beyond the limited mindset that so many are lost in and she began to realize that most everything about the body, every symptom, every ailment, was actually a reflection of one’s lack of care for their mind, body and soul.
The mind, body and soul are the innermost portion of the self that most often mask with various roles; Roles that society constructs us to adapt and/or surrender to.
In all honesty, the deepest self, the “inner pilot light,” the essence inside of us, the truth of how we think, how we feel is always attempting to guide us back to that authentic, unmasked self.
In the video, Rankin mentions 9 attributes to optimal health to include:
-Healthy relationships
-Healthy professional life
-Access to true creative expression
-A spiritual connection
-A healthy sex life
-Financial health
-A healthy environment
-Mental health
-Body health
Many people who navigate through life running from their true desires and emotions, wearing mask of all types trying to please others being exactly what some social construct says they are, often waste away in poor health or they come to the exact same realization that Lissa Rankin has.
Not everyone articulates it the way Lissa Rankin does in her video but overall, the conclusion is always the same. The mind must be well for the body to be well.
All of the 9 components mentioned are degrees of what one’s own mind sees as healthy in that realm. In the financial realm, some believe they need billions of dollars to feel content.
Lissa Rankin mentioned herself how being an OBGYN, she essentially, “had it all” when it came to finances but that perception was not her own, it was the perception of what society modeled as good financial health.
Lissa came to find that in her own life, her true inner self really was not interested in that level of “financial health.”
The same is said of sexual health, spiritual health, creative health, etc.
It is one’s own perception what is enough to be good for them and until one can gauge exactly what one’s own perception is, the mind will continue to manifest that discomfort, the mind will continue to manifest that disconnect somewhere in the body as an illness or some other form of dis-comfort and/or dis-ease. Where disease is some stretch out of feeling easy, it is disconnected, uneasy, uncomfortable and disassociated with true feelings of easiness.
In honor of Women’s History Month, not only do we need to take it easy but as women, we need to honor our true and authentic feminine energy.
The wearing of various masks can often harden us to the point where we even sound or began to act like the opposite gender.
As women, it is vital that we take time to understand what our own needs are, to understand what our perception is in relation to the various components of life such as creativity etc.
When is the last time we honored our creative ability by making sure we create rather through music, painting, cooking, sewing, building, writing, speaking, whatever our creative energy is?
When is the last time we sat down and thought about what we really would feel good about when it comes to the 9 components that Rankin mentions?
The majority of us live oppressed so it seems that much of what we want is not within our grasp but we could never be more wrong as we are merely a thought away.
Some of us live privileged and have no idea how to began to gauge what really truly want but again, we are merely a thought away.
We honor women this Women’s History Month and forever more for the road less traveled, the road that leads us home in our heart of hearts where there is a light, flickering, waving and motioning for us to pay attention to what we feel, how we feel and how we want to feel it.
