Historically, women have always wanted to have control over their body and reproduction. Before the 20th century, birth control options were not easily accessible for the average women and mostly unavailable to the impoverished woman.
In the early to mid 1900’s, women would have 7-10 children easily because as mentioned, birth control was not easily accessible.
Currently, women have numerous options to choose from as a method to control the birth of children but many times, for whatever reason, some women select abortion as an option to controlling birth.
Possible reasons why women choose abortion
While one can never be for certain exactly why some women choose various birth control methods, side effects of birth control may be an issue.
Birth control methods vary and regulate birth in different ways. Some methods block travel of sperm to egg, some kill sperm before it can travel, some reduce the lining of the uterine wall and will not sustain the womb as an environment suitable for sustaining a pregnancy.
There are also birth control methods that alter the hormones in the body. Hormones are literally chemical messengers within the body. Our physiology is really and sincerely a combination of chemicals that react and/or respond to other chemicals as messages are poured into the blood stream by hormones.
An example of hormones is the growth hormone. As children, we grow and grow until we reach a certain age and then our growth stops. Hormones are responsible for both initiating growth and stopping growth.
Hormones control our emotions, when we think certain thoughts, the literal vibration of those thoughts create certain chemicals that result in feelings.
Most anyone on Earth would agree that women are emotional beings and this is why some women are terrified of introducing chemicals into the body that produce unnatural messages.
Most birth control pills are hormonal and there are even hormonal Inter Uterine Devices (IUD’s) that send false messages to the body that increase estrogen and tell the body that it is already pregnant.
While many women are ok with this, there are many women who feel that hormonal birth control methods are taboo. Moreover, some women even fear a governmental form of puppetry may be associated with such devices and/or hormones.
Hormones are not the only method of birth control, there are other things but many women do not desire to synthesize sex with unnatural instruments that can be entered into the vagina.
There are also masses of women who do use prescribed birth control methods and still get pregnant. Pregnancies that happen while a woman is using birth control can lead to birth defects or other negative possibilities such as miscarriage when the lining of the uterus has been thinned out significantly by some form of birth control.
There are women who know they are not ready to be mother's mentally or because they are simply too irresponsible and/or out of control with drugs and alcohol.
There are even other groups of women who know that the father of the child is already married, attached or would not father the child for whatever reason and they opt to spare a child such a fatherless life...
All of the above are reasons why women choose abortion as a method of birth control.
Overall, women are always given details on the various methods of how birth control works and the majority of birth control methods prevent pregnancy by eliminating the fertilized egg in some form or fashion therefore, eliminating a fertilized egg via abortion seems exactly the same as any other method.
The majority of women who choose abortion feel that it is of high controversy only as a measure to reverse the option of controlling birth overall.
Many people who share the same spiritual thoughts and are organized into groups known as religions have a very low tolerance for abortion and this has continued to divide the country even into recent times.
Moreover, when it comes to religion, most religious book teach that God allots humans with free-will and therefore each person can choose on how to live their life and then answer to that choice in ultimate judgment in some form or another but persons who relentlessly pursue control of others seems to deny others of their own God given right to practice free-will.
As the Sacramento African American Issues Examiner, I do not support or promote any particular religion within this article but practice of such judgment and regulation is relevant to ones spiritual beliefs.
As a woman’s right to choose falls within range of morale, we can contemplate or think about other issues of morality and how violation of morals would seem almost unfair, if not ridiculous, if society chose to regulate such morals under/within the law.
An example would be cheating on a spouse. Infidelity is a moral issue and mostly bound by the institution of marriage, would society support creating laws against cheating? Such a suggestion seems almost frivolous and impractical but cheating can result in breaking institutions of marriage, depression, bankruptcy, crimes of passion, suicide and many other dilemmas but as a society, our memetics tune such problems out of our psychological mind and dismiss such issues as merely moral misconduct.
It seems that as humans, we do need some form of regulation as we would never want to allow for ill-minded individuals such as a child molester to practice their disgusting behaviors without repercussion; However, a woman’s decision on how she chooses to live life is empowering to that woman in the regard of human agency, self-sufficiency and her own personal ideas about the vision she sees in her life.
Furthermore, in today’s society, parenting is not always a two person event. There are many women who fall short of being who they should be to the children they give birth to but there are also numerous men who navigate life feeling that parenting is an option that they can decline to partake of if they feel they want to be with someone else.
There are many single fathers in the world but there are triple the amount of single mothers.
Abortion is a woman’s way to create the life she can manage, the life she visions. The psychological damage unwanted children suffer through from mother’s who were judged, embarrassed or forced to maintain a pregnancy and raise a child is out of alignment with the maternal instinct.
We honor Universal Women’s Week by taking a quiet moment in this moment to reflect on the plight of women worldwide who are forced into roles when they are not mentally or financially ready to choose such a life altering path as rearing a child.
We honor women worldwide who have been forced into such roles but in silence, sustained the role in a responsible manner, sacrificing their goals, their progress and their dreams as a way to empower a society who seeks to maintain dominion over the Universes most powerful and beautiful creatures.
