Daily Dose: Small Can Be Big

Giving

If sending a written card is too much for your key-tapping fingers, another story of a small act that can make a big difference might spark your Intel-powered heart.

In January, 2009, a small group of big hearted folks launched a website that allows those with a little extra to help those in need. Located at SmallCanBeBig.org the premise is darn simple. In many cases it’s not the big problems that force families into homelessness or despair, but rather a relatively small expense that is the difference between life as we know it and life on the streets.    SmallCanBeBig works with local charities in their hometown of Beantown (actually Waltham, Massachusetts) to identify families in these tentative situations. And asks you to help.

This isn’t a 10-story building with an endowment and a staff of 30. It’s a little website with a few stories of people that just need a little help. Like the mom who lost her job and needs $1500 for a car to get to her temporary job as a dental hygienist – and to support her 7-year old son. Or the mom who needs help with her electric bill – so her straight-A children can read when the sun goes down.

In these times, it’s tough for everyone. But SmallCanBeBig isn’t asking for a hefty check. They’re asking for a $1. Or $2. Or whatever you can give to help a family in need. It’s easy. Click on a hard-luck story, click on donate, click on the amount you’d like to donate and Google checkout will take you through the process. If next week you have a few extra sheckles, SmallCanBeBig.org will remember your donation information if you’d like. And don’t worry, 100% of that $1 will help the family get back on their feet.As Proverbs says:

He who is full dismisses honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
