As I read thru 1 Corinthians this morning, 7:20, jumped out at me. "Yes, each of you should remain as you were when God called you." So what does that truly mean? Does it insinuate that when we begin to serve God and accept Him into our lives that we are to remain in the same place he found us in? Are we not supposed to be constantly changing as we strive to meet the needs of others and emulate His ways in our daily walk?
After a bit of pondering, here is what I've come up with and I pray I do God's word justice. The dictionary defines "remain" a few different ways but it's in the last definition that I suddenly understood the scripture. "Continue to possess a particular quality or fulfill a particular role." So God doesn't expect us to lay dormant and stay physically, emotionally or spiritually in the same place. He expects us to grow and mature and be the instrument that he needs for us to be in this world. However, God does need for us to never give up or change who we truly are, we must never conform; we need to hold true to who he designed us to be. Those special and unique qualities that we all possess are gifts and he desires for us to remain as He found us.
I encourage you today, to never lose sight of who you are and all of your gifts and talents. Understand that you have distinctive characteristics that belong to you alone and by allowing God to work through you, life change can and will occur in the lives of those around you.
