Daft Punk sweeps the Grammys with Album and Record of the year

It was a big night for Daft Punk at the 56th Annual Grammy Award show as the French electronic music producers known for their mainstream collaborations with Pharrell and Kanye West, swept the award show winning a total of five Grammy Awards for the five categories they were nominated in including Record of the year for ‘Get Lucky’ and Album of the year for Random Access Memories on January 26.

Random Access Memories which is the duo’s fourth studio album on their Daft Life imprint also earned Grammy Awards for Best Dance/Electronica Album, Best Engineered Album, (Non-Classical), and Best Pop/Duo Group Performance for their collaboration with Pharell on the summer sensation, ‘Get Lucky.’

The album, which has been the duo’s most critically successful to date, debuting at number one in twenty one countries, diverged from the duo’s typical electronic sound of drum machines and electronic instruments. Paying homage to the music of the 70s and 80s, the duo used live recordings as a basis for their tracks with collaborations from Giorgio Moroder, Panda Bear, Julian Casablancas, Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams, and of course, Pharrell Williams

Other notable electronic dance music artists who won Grammys were Cedric Gervais for ‘Best Remixed Recording (Non-Classical)’ for Lana Del Ray’s ‘Summer Time Sadness’ remix and Zedd for the Best Dance Recording for his single ‘Clarity’ featuring the Foxes.
