In the midst of raising their children most dads want their kids to have it better than they did as kids, so they do all they can to make that happen. Be it working harder, working longer or whatever, they tend to do what it takes. I applaud this concept because it begets "nobility" in lives of all those children and being noble is a big source of pride.
Speaking of nobility on Thursday night I had the opportunity to meet dozens of men, fathers, soldiers and alumni of Johnson & Wales University at a reception honoring Alumni Military Veterans in Providence at the Conley's Wharf Conference Center. The event included a wonderful exclusive tour of the Liberty Ship S.S. John W. Brown, one of only 2 shiips of its kind from World War II. If you want to talk about amazing, informative and stunning, this is all of that. The tour of this WWII vessel is special because of its crew. The noble crew members are all on board the ship during your tour talking to you as you browse the ship. Showing you things you shouldn't miss and telling you the stories you never knew. This Providence attraction is one for the record books and definitely worth your time. A great outing for the family with the not so young kids who can walk around the ship and understand where they are.
The John W. Brown is docked in Providence through September 27, 2010 so pack up the kids and head on down there dad. Dress comfortable because the stairways are tight and tall and there's a lot of walking to be done throughout this ship tour, but like I said it's well worth it.
