“Gasolina” rapper Daddy Yankee is not gay and his publicist blames the Spanish-language media for igniting rumors that the 36-year-old singer was seen kissing another man. Many news outlets went so far as to say the rapper, born Ramon Ayala, made a public statement saying he is in fact homosexual.
Hollywood Life reported on April 4 that Daddy Yankee’s publicist issued a statement denying any claims that Daddy Yankee is homosexual. The statement, in part, reads:
“Online blogs and social media are once again to blame for the spread of false news reports, which other media outlets have also shared regarding a public figure.”
Mayna Nevarez, president of the public relations firm Nevarez Communications accused the Spanish-language media outlet of fabricating false information and “spreading it through social media sites.”
Rumors of Daddy Yankee’s homosexuality hit a high on April 3 when several Spanish media websites posted pictures of a man, who had “minor similarities” to Daddy Yankee, kissing another man. The stories attached to the photo claimed that Daddy Yankee had released an official statement confirming that he is gay. According to the Los Angeles Times, the statement credited to Daddy Yankee read:
“I am a human being like any other, with virtues and defects, and I don’t believe that this is a defect.”
In addition to Mayna Nevarez statement, the rapper posted a quote from Albert Einstein, in Spanish, to his Twitter account: “I fear the day when technology overlaps humanity. It will be then that the world will have permanent ensuing of generations of idiots.”
