Tyler James Deutsch, 25, of Roy, Wash., was sentenced to 16 years behind bars on March 21 after being found guilty of beating his 6-week-old daughter and then putting her in the freezer for an hour because the baby wouldn't stop crying.

Although the infant is now remarkably fully recovered, the prosecutor in the case described Deutsch’s actions as “horrible and inexplicable,” according to Fox News.

Deutch pleaded guilty in January to first-degree assault.

Originally charged following the May 2013 atrocity with child assault, criminal mistreatment and interfering with reporting of domestic violence, Deutsch could have been sentenced to life in prison.

At one point, prosecutors weren’t ruling out adding attempted murder charges against the father.

Not only did Deutsch put the baby, who was wearing only a diaper, in the upright freezer set at 10 degrees along with a bag of ice and a bag of cauliflower, he then proceeded to fall asleep for an hour, according to prosecutors.

The baby girl also suffered a head injury, and a broken arm and leg.

The baby’s 22-year-old mother entered the family mobile home just after Deutsch awoke and was taking the infant out of the freezer.

As the mom frantically tried to dial 911, prosecutors said that Deutsch grabbed the phone away from her.

The mother ran out of the trailer carrying her 6-week-old daughter to a neighbor’s home where she was able to call the police.

Deutsch followed his wife to the neighbors’ home where he admitted “placing the girl into the freezer, but said that it was for his daughters own benefit.”

He admitted putting the baby in the freezer “because he was tired and she was crying,” charging papers state.
