A dad disowns daughter story, along with his related note, has gone viral. The pro-gay father took a drastic step when his daughter, whom the viral letter identifies as “Christine,” kicked her son out of her house after telling her he was gay. The disappointed dad penned a note in response, and his stance in support of his gay grandson has gone viral, says Yahoo! Shine on Oct. 2.
The letter was sent to anti-homophobia site Fckh8.com by a supporter, according to their Facebook page. Here’s the full text:
Dear Christine,
I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family,” but mistaken about what it is. Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here. A parent disowning her child is what goes “against nature.” The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all this was that “you didn’t raise your son to be gay." Of course you didn’t. He was born this way and didn’t choose it any more than he being left-handed. You however, have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow-minded and backward. So, while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the gays put it) grandson to raise, and I don’t have time for heart-less B-word of a daughter. If you find your heart, give us a call. – Dad.
Few details have emerged on the identity of the family, or the circumstances surrounding the letter. In quoting his daughter, it would appear that the mom told her son that his gay inclination was “against nature” and an “abomination.”
Because the letter has received such spotlight attention since its release, FCKH8 spokesperson Luke Montgomery confirmed with the grandfather and grandson that the letter and details in it are factual.
“We get letters and emails from fans of our equality T-shirts all over the world who want us to share it on Facebook and spread the word for the cause,” Montgomery said. “The teen who sent this in has one of our ‘Some Dudes Marry Dudes’ T-shirts and we are going to be sending his grandpa a free ‘Straight Against Hate’ tee for being such an awesome example and inspiring so many even though it was by accident.”
FCKH8 sells shirts and sweatshirts with anti-gay messages, such as “Some dudes marry dudes. Get over it,” “Nobody knows I’m gay,” and “Don’t be hatin’ on the Homos.”
The letter, as you can imagine, has sparked debate across multiple sites. Here are a few of the comments on a related WebProNews article. On the “against” side:
The dad is a pathetic example of a father to tell his daughter that her son was BORN gay…. sorry old man contrary to what you are thinking you are not BORN gay, it’s a lifestyle that a person chooses and has never had anything to do with genetics, now go and forgive your daughter for not being able to deal with the fact that her son wants to be GAY and be a real father. –Bob
Gay or not, the mother did the right thing, she is forcing the “child,” who is old enough to live on his own, to take responsibility for his own actions and decisions. –Temat
On the “pro” side:
I do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle whatsoever, but ANYONE who disowns their child is pathetic. Even that so called dad who wrote the letter. –Mike
What is disgusting is a bunch of bigoted soulless fools who think are incapable of understanding the psychological harm this woman has done to her son. The grandfather did exactly what was needed to be done to show her how it feels to abandon a love one. –ke76nt
