The father who is charged with deliberately leaving his 22-month-old son in a hot car for over seven hours was sexting with multiple women while his son was in the car suffocating from the heat and died. Justin Ross Harris is charged in the boy’s death and could face the death penalty, according to ABC News on July 3.

Both Justin and his wife Leanne Harris were “unemotional” when they were told that their son Cooper was dead, reports police. Before the boy died Harris online searches including watching videos of animals dying in hot cars, he searched articles about “life without children,” and viewed Reddit videos that showed people dying by suicide or execution.

He also searched “how to survive in prison.” Leanne Harris also admitted to searching online about kids dying in hot cars. The detective told the court that little Cooper Harris died a “painful death” as the outside temperature hit 88 degrees that day, turning the car into an oven.

According to USA Today, while at the police station Harris told his wife that Cooper looked “peaceful” with his eyes and mouth shut, but police said the baby’s eyes and mouth were open when he was found. Harris also said to his wife that “I dreaded how he would look.” That’s when Leanna asked her husband “Did you say too much?” This was during the time that the police were questioning the couple.

Leanne Harris also said something which sounded incriminating when she went to pick up her son at daycare and was told that Cooper was never dropped off. A few moments later she said; “Ross must have left him in the car.” During a phone call with Justin’s mother, who was distraught over the death of the boy, Leanne’s mother-in-law asked her “Why aren’t you crying?” Leanne said “I must be in shock.”

The baby was found with marks on his face and the back of his head that are being called abrasions. The couple had two insurance policies on the baby. Harris had a $2,000 policy on Cooper through his work and back in November the couple took out a $25,000 policy on their only child.

Police found that while that baby was dying in the car, Harris was sexting various women, one as young as 17. The very graphic messages showed he had some type of secret life going online. A detective believes that Harris is a flight risk because of this “whole second life.” He is being held without bond today.

The investigation into Leanne Harris is on-going as it is with Justin Harris today. People who know Justin Harris paint a different picture of him than the one emerging through this investigation. They say he is a wonderful family man who loved his son very much. Police paint him as a calculating killer who put his son in a situation that caused him a long and painful death.
