A man allegedly followed his ex-wife and her friends home from a bar and shot a man who was holding his 7-year-old child in Gwinnett County.
On Tuesday, officers arrested the suspect – almost four years after the shooting, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Josue Ordonez-Ruiz was charged with aggravated assault in the shooting that happened in 2010, the sheriff’s spokeswoman Deputy Shannon Volkodav said.
On Oct. 30, Gwinnett County police responded to 5735 Everglades Trail in Norcross after getting a call about a person shot, Deputy Volkodav said.
Mr. Ordonez-Ruiz’s ex-wife, Ms. Brandy Marez, told the officers that her ex-husband followed her and her friends home from a bar and began firing a revolver before fleeing in his vehicle, Deputy Volkodav said.
“Jose Lemus, who was holding the divorced couple’s 7 year old child, was grazed in the leg by a bullet,” Deputy Volkodav said.
He was treated at the scene by responding fire rescue personnel. And police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Ordonez-Ruiz, she said.
Gwinnett County Sheriff’s deputies followed up on leads that Mr. Ordonez-Ruiz had returned from Mexico and was back in the metro-Atlanta area.
Their investigation led them to 3585 Meadowglen Village Lane, Apt. O in Doraville, where Mr. Ordonez-Ruiz was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.
He remained there Tuesday night without bond.
