It seems like another fun video with Jack, the CEO of Jack in the Box with the giant ping-pong ball head. But this time, he has an arch nemesis who is trying to get a secret formula from Jack, and his team of soldiers pull out their secret weapons—Dachshunds with laser beams on their heads.
That’s right, wiener dogs with laser beams!
It’s another brilliant idea from marketing super-whiz Dick Sittig, who (by the way) is the voice of Jack in all of these commercials. Sittig’s company, Secret Weapon Marketing, is the team that created the Jack commercials, and of course, came up with the Dachshund weapons. (He also has little dogs of his own—see his CEO photo.)
Sittig is a superstar in the advertising world. He created the Energizer Bunny, which is in the Advertising Hall of Fame. In 1995, he created the Jack in the Box campaign, which has now had 400 different ads.
Steve Valentine is the actor playing the evil Eastern-European-sounding invader, can be seen in Tim Burton’s fanciful Mars Attacks! He was also in House M.D., Monk, Just Shoot Me, Will and Grace, Dharma & Greg and Charmed.
Also, one of the shooters carrying the Dachshunds is actor Alex Solowitz who is also known as Mickey Park from the show 2gether. He is the first guy you see with the wiener dog laser. He was also in Everybody Loves Raymond, Just Shoot Me!, ER, No Ordinary Family, Nickelodeon TV show Cousin Skeeter, and Justified. He played Brett in Never Been Kissed and Bobby “911” in the 2006 movie, Alpha Dog.
Sittig, who came up with the commercial idea, runs Secret Weapon Marketing based in Santa Monica, California since 1997.
Sittig’s group shoots an average of 22 Jack in the Box commercials a year.
At least one of the Wiener Dog Lasers seems a little restless in the arms of the soldiers (as you'll note.)
