If there's any doubt that Dachshunds think they are big dogs in little dog bodies, hear the true recent story of a brave little four-pound Doxie named Bradley in Oscoda County, Colorado.
Brave little Bradley was a black-and-tan mini-Dachsie who lived with the Force family in the mountain wilderness, and was very aware of the wildlife dangers. Especially bears.
Two friends came to visit the Force family and decided to go around the area in a golf cart, with Bradley at the helm.
See the original video here and photos and the full story here.
John Force, who had Bradley all his life, described how they came across a bear family, mother, father and baby cubs, and they were about to attack the humans after an intense stare-down.
Instead, Bradley attacked. First, he attacked the bigger papa bear, at least 100 times bigger and heavier than the pup. Then, the dog attacked the mother bear, and essentially chased them off. Bradley made it back to the golf cart, but he didn't survive the injuries with the bears and died an hour later.
"I believe honestly the outcome would've been different if Brad had not been with him," John Force said. "I think Brad did save them from getting mauled at least.”
"He was only four to five pounds, but in his mind I think he thought he was 100 pounds," Lisa Force, John's wife, said.
Even the two large Rottweilers at the Force family didn't have the bravery of Bradley.
Lisa insisted: ”I would expect [Bradley] to protect me before the Rottweilers, probably.”
Although it's sad, John Force said, “I think he went out the way he wanted to go out. You know, he was a little fighter, a little scrapper, and he didn’t think twice about attacking a bear. I guarantee you, he would have did it again.”
He added: “It ain’t the size of the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog that counts, and that sums it up for Bradley.”
