DA makes decision in police officer killing of family dog

Erie, CO - Ava, a 4 yr-old German shepherd, was shot and killed before her family's eyes by an Erie Police Officer who was responding to a call placed by Ava's owner, Brittany Moore.

The deadly shooting happened on May 10 - Moore was and is, devastated by the killing of her beloved companion.

Though Moore claims that her dog was turning away from the police officer, Jamie Chester, at the time of the shooting, the Boulder County District Attorney has decided that Chester was not in the wrong with his decision to use deadly force.

Ava's family has a Facebook page which is dedicated in the pursuit of justice for the dog who was gunned down. In response to the DA's decision, the following was published,

JFA (Justice for Ava) wants to remind everybody that the outcome of that investigation is based primarily on the officers report. No one present share the officers reported experience of that event. We will continue to pursue justice for Ava.

Two vital points are of particular concern to Ava's family: Why was there no warning given by the responding officer? Perhaps more importantly, why was a gun utilized instead of pepper spray or other, non-deadly options?

As it stands right now, Officer Chester will not be facing any criminal charges for his actions.

The Erie Police Chief is standing by his officer's actions - telling reporters that Ava was "unlicensed, off-leash, and not under the control of the owner" at the time of the shooting.

All facts that are of little consolation to Ava's grieving family - not to mention, facts (except perhaps the unlicensed portion) that are disputed by Brittany Moore - her version varies greatly from the officer's......

According to the Justice for Ava Facebook page - this fight is not over.....
