The Los Angeles D-Fenders lost to the Bakersfield Jam, for a second straight night, 110-108 at Toyota Sports Center on Saturday night.
In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (1-4) got off to a hot start from beyond the arc, hitting five of their eight attempts, but finished the frame trailing 31-29 to the Jam (3-4). In the second, the D-Fenders were sparked by a 14-4 run mid-way through the quarter and finished strong to lead 59-56 at the half. In total, The D-Fenders shot 48.9 percent from the field in the half and tallied 18 assists on their 22 field goals.
The third frame proved to be another close battle which saw the D-Fenders get out in the open court and score eight fast-break points, but watch their lead diminish to one point entering the final quarter. The fourth period featured three lead changes and four ties and ended up coming down to the final possession where Bakersfield’s Brian Butch hit a lay-up in the waning seconds to shut down the D-Fenders.
Lakers assignment player Ryan Kelly led the D-Fenders with his second 30+ point performance of the season, posting 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists. In addition, Kareem Rush (17 points, seven rebounds), Josh Magette (16 points, six assists), Brandon Costner (13 points) and Travis Hyman (11 points) all finished in double-digits.
Atlanta Hawks assignment players Dennis Schroder (21 points) and John Jenkins (20 points, 11 rebounds) led the charge for the Jam. Also finishing in double-digits were James Nunnally (19 points), Mac Koshwal (12 points), Damion James (11 points) and Billy Baptist (11 points). Furthermore, Brian Butch posted a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) for the second straight night.
Overall, the D-Fenders knocked down 94.1 percent of their free-throws and forced the Jam into 20 turnovers on the night. The D-Fenders were also adept at getting out in transition, out-scoring the Jam 24-9 in that category. However, the D-Fenders were outrebounded 51-41 and outscored in the paint 54-46 in total.
The D-Fenders next contest will feature a back-to-back series against the Santa Cruz Warriors on December 14th and 15th at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
