D.C. police investigate 5 shootings including 2 murders, and other mayhem

Washington, D.C. -- Saturday was a violent morning in the District of Columbia with at least two confirmed homicides and several other noteworthy incidents.
 
1:50 a.m. – 1500-blk Kenilworth Ave NE (4500-blk Douglas St NE). A man was shot in the shoulder.  No usable lookout was obtained from the victim.
 
2 a.m. – North Capitol at Q Sts NE. A witness told police they saw a gunman open fire on a victim who was at the Metrobus stop.  The bus stop received significant damage.  But police never found any injured persons.
 
3:57 a.m. – 4500-blk Benning Rd NE, at a gas station.  Police say officers found a man who was shot inside a vehicle and a 16-year-old girl who "sustained a non-life threatening injury.”  The man was later pronounced dead of his injuries at the hospital.  Police identified him as 24-year-old Stephon Emmanuel Way of Upper Marlboro, MD.  Police issued a crime alert for a black man with shoulder-length dreads.  He fled in a small silver car.

4:33 a.m. – 14th St and Park Rd NW.  An unconscious person was discovered alongside the roadway.  The original suspicion was that the body had been thrown or dumped from a passing vehicle.  The decedent was taken to a trauma center and was later pronounced dead.  Police say this is a death investigation only (not a homicide).  A crime alert was distributed early this morning for a black man driving a car with DC tags DS9566.
 
8:46 a.m. – 2300-blk Ainger Pl SE.  An adult male had been shot inside an apartment. Police say he had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police later identified him as 35-year-old Delvon Javis Shearin of Southeast
 
The Metropolitan Police Department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
 
Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to DC CRIME SOLVERS at 1-800-673-2777 and to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
