D.B.A. Barbecue launches monthly BBQ sauce making class

D.B.A. Barbecue is introducing a saucy, new monthly experience beginning Wednesday, March 26, 2014. On the last Wednesday of every month, barbecue enthusiasts are invited to join owner and pit master, Matt Coggin, on D.B.A.’s newly remodeled patio, which is covered and heated, to learn the secrets behind creating the perfect barbecue sauce from one of Atlanta’s best.

Known for his award-winning, hickory smoked barbecue, hospitality and expertise, Coggin will walk participants through the ins and outs of regional flavors, how various ingredients affect overall taste, the difference between vinegar and tomato-based sauces, tricks and tips for mastering the smoker and cooking meats, and much more. A hands-on experience, no sauce-making class would be complete without cocktails and a proper taste test.

Guests will enjoy the fruits of their labor as they indulge in specialty meats, while sampling three different varieties of moonshine and bourbon to wash it all down. Once created, D.B.A. team members will bottle each participant’s one-of-a-kind sauce so they can enjoy their creations at home and share with friends and family. Coggin will also give interested guests a private tour of D.B.A.’s impressive smoker along with expert advise on how to master the craft. Classes will be offered on the last Wednesday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m., space is limited and reservations are required. $40 for one person, $70 for two and $130 for a group of four, the class will include an opening cocktail and snacks; a flight of three different Junior Johnson Midnight Moon moonshines and a Four Roses Bourbon; expert instruction to make a pint of barbecue sauce to take home; a sampling of ribs, pork, two wings, brisket, grilled Texas cream corn, and banana pudding; and a tour of D.B.A.’s smoker. To top it off, each guest will leave with a $10 gift certificate to be used at a later date along with a bottle of one of D.B.A.’s house-made barbecue sauces.
