Cynthia Nixon shaves her head for Broadway

Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City fame recently shaved her head for her return to Broadway in Wit. The show premiered January 26th, 2012 at the Samuel J Friedman Theatre in Manhattan.

In her second appearance on Broadway, Nixon is starring as Vivian Bearing, poetry professor and cancer patient undergoing experimental treatments. The Tony Award and two-time Emmy Award-winning actress enveloped herself in the role and had her hair shaved off, completely bald. When asked by Kelly Rippa (attached video) if she felt liberated without the upkeep of hair, Nixon responded “Yes, but I thought it was going to be kind of no muss no fuss, and I have to shave it everyday".  Fortunately for Nixon, she has a perfect shaped head to pull off such a bold look.

As an LGBT activist, Nixon has come under fire of late regarding statements she made about her bisexuality and gay relationship. She has since explained her thoughts and appears to be booming with self-confidence, sans the hair.

Like the character Cynthia Nixon plays in Wit, being bald may not be a choice due to illness and/or genetics. Maintenance is still required for a hair free scalp. The head may have to be shaved frequently to avoid a five o’clock shadow and the scalp should be cleansed, exfoliated and moisturized as often as the face.

There are many alternatives for those who didn’t chose to be bald with hair regrowth therapies, wigs, and stylish hats and scarves. If you or someone you know would like further information on hair loss or thinning hair, follow the links below for suggestions that may be useful.
