Cynthia Nixon: Gay choice was hers says SATC actress (photos)

Cynthia Nixon talked with the New York Times about her life as a gay woman. Actually, she said she "chooses to be gay."

While this comment indicates the SATC star is bisexual, Nixon's words that claim she has a choice brought outcries from the gay community, many of whom have problems with this claim.

The aforementioned statement that this thespian was originally spoken in a speech attended by a gay audience. But when the event's organizers wanted the line "I've been straight and I've been gay and gay is better" taken out of the address, Cynthia Nixon refused. She told the New York Times that she stands by her statement.

Nixon said, “I understand that for many people it’s not [a choice], but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me.”

However, the specific community, the one to whom Nixon was speaking, has long talked about the fact that being gay is not a choice and one Los Angeles resident in particular agrees. Activist Patrick John says that he would not have necessarily chosen to be homosexual, but that wasn't the case. He was and he is. Period.

So, with Cynthia Nixon, 45 -- who is engaged to Christine Marinoni, birth mother to the couple's son, Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni -- is claiming gay choice has been her experience, the SATC actress is under fire by certain members of the very community she enjoys being part of, at least at this point in her life.
