Cyndy Garvey sues UCLA

Cyndy Garvey, former talk show host and ex-wife of MLB star Steve Garvey is suing the University of California, Los Angeles, according to a Jan. 29 TMZ report.

Garvey is reportedly suing the UCLA over allegations that she was tricked into enrolling in the University’s master’s program. The former talk show host claims that she was approached to by two of the university’s representatives who asked her whether she would enroll in the graduate program at the University’s School of Public Health.

She claims that even though she had no interest in going back to school, the former director of the executive master’s program offered her a scholarship because the school would reportedly benefit from her “celebrity status.” The costs were to split equally beween alumni funds and UCLA.

Garvey’s lawsuit filed by entertainment attorney Keith Fink in the Los Angeles County Superior Court alleges that she completed the program in 2009 and was hit with a $20,000 tax lien 3 years later, for unpaid debt to UCLA even though she “fulfilled her fundraising and P.R. obligations.”

She claims she never signed an agreement to pay for her tuition and is seeking damages from UCLA.

Garvey co-hosted "The Morning Show" with Regis Philbin years before working with Kathie Lee and Kelly Ripa.
