The month of October means more than baseball playoffs, bonfires, and that one holiday prized by all of our sweet-toothed friends, it's a 31-day celebration of breast cancer awareness.
It may seem contrary to glorify a disease that takes the lives of an estimated 40,000 women each year, but we must remember the 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States (source).
And, on Saturday, Oct. 8 the Cincinnati Cyclones and Pink Ribbon Girls are doing just that. They're raising awareness, educating the community, and empowering women everywhere. Oh, and they're having a blast doing it. The inaugural Power Play 5K Run/Walk presented by Powerade begins at 5 p.m. This 3.1-mile race starts and ends at U.S. Bank Arena and runs along the banks of the Ohio River.
The entry fee is $30 and includes a technical T-shirt, a commemorative finishers cup, drink and food tickets for the post-race party, along with admission to the Cincinnati Cyclones exhibition game immediately following the race at 6:30 p.m. Click here to register online.
Cincinnati may be known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration, but the real fest honors breast cancer awareness. Sunny skies are in this weekend's forecast so soak up the warm temperatures and--more importantly--embrace your health!
