In his new book, Cyberwar, Richard Clarke says
we are at risk as governments use
the Internet to wage war.
In his new book “Cyberwar” Richard Clarke provides a great deal of evidence supporting the trend that governments are now working to wage electronic wars on the Internet. Clarke, who served as a counterterrorism adviser to Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush is famous for his 2001 warnings about the possibility of an impending al-Qaida attack to members of the Bush administration. The consequence of the Bush administration ignoring Clarke was the success of the 911 attacks.

Clarke is now warning of the cultural trend moving us toward another potential security catastrophe. In his new book, “Cyberwar: The Next Threat to National Security and What to Do About It,” he lays out a bleak picture of how governments (including the USA) are created computer-based war strategies. If they are attaching the US, we label them terrorism, but if we are doing the exact same thing, we call it defense.
Clarke and his co-author Robert Knake discuss situations in which hackers could hypothetically cripple the United States using computers and software or hardware that has been secretly implanted in everyday computers. Those computers are known as “zombies” because they can be controlled from thousands of miles away without the owner knowing about them. Controlling tens of thousands if not millions of such zombies, a “terrorist” or government (what’s the difference?) could cripple most modern networks including power grids, military systems such as radar or transportation systems.
According to Clarke, this technology is readily available and has been already been tested or used by governments and hackers alike. He claims that it’s just a matter of time before a major incident / attack brings down one of these networks and there is little or nothing that “we the people” can do to stop it.
Again, we see governments using our tax dollars in support of another form of weaponry while 25,000 people starve to death globally each day, our economy continues to flounder, our citizens are losing jobs and home and our education system continues to deteriorate.
May we all finally wake up to the realization that there are an abundance of resources available to support all people. And may we challenge our “leaders” to shift their focus and our money from weaponry to livingry.
