Cuvee Renee and sweet and sour pork
This beer is of Lambic origin made by the same brewery that produces Orval but was once brewed by Lindeman’s the maker’s of Framboise, Cassis, Kriek and all the other fruit flavored and sweetened Lambic style Belgian wild ales. Cuvee Renee is a straight Lambic with no fruit and is or can be quite tart.
Feeling hungry for sweet and sour pork my mind drifted to what to have with it. I want something with a large carbonation to it, something that’s not bitter (as bitter and sour don’t often mix well) and I’d like it to play well with the sweet and sour of the dish. I thought of the beer I had a long time ago when exploring the sour beers of Belgium. Cuvee Renee I think is a perfect fit. Tart, low in bitterness with a Champaign like carbonation that will lift and blend well with the fruity, sweet and sour of the pork.
