The stuffed animals in Cute Creatures are knit and crochet. It is the perfect book for individuals who love when the bar is set high on soft toys. There are 35 designs to choose from.
The designs in this book are geared towards knitters and crocheters who already know their craft. Please don't let that stop newbies* from enjoying the creatures. It will give you something to aspire to. With some handholding you can create your own creature.
The book opens up with a full page photograph of each of the creatures and includes a blurb about them and the list of materials. The instructions are all presented in the second half of the book along with information on assembling the pieces, stitch definition, enlarging the patterns and creating French Knitting. I-cord is similar to French Knitting and probably can be used in its place. Graphs are used as an aid where required. The materials section describes the weight, color and type of fiber used but is not specific about yardage. It is very generic and allows you to be flexible with yarn brand.
Antoinette the hen is a funky little chicken that anyone who likes stuffed toys would be happy to receive as a gift. There is a little crocheted amigurumi-style hedgehog, chihuahua, pig, cow, sheep...that can be used as a key ring accessory. They would be nice hanging off a child's backpack. The animal key rings are perfect stocking stuffers and are quick to work up. The Zippy zebra is one of the easiest projects in the book and is completed using knit rectangles. The patterns are cute but no attribution is given to the designers.
Which one of the menagerie will you make first?
