Cute cats star in first web film festival (Video)

Vice News attended the first ever Internet Cat Video Film Festival in Minneapolis and came away with a few unexpected surprises. In the video posted below, published to YouTube on March 13, 2013, many of the myths about so-called "Crazy Cat Ladies" are dispelled.

For instance, some of them have boyfriends who say they are not cat lovers. Scenes of one of the guys letting a hairless kitty use him like a trampoline would tend to refute that idea, but it just goes to show how cats can worm their way into the hearts of the unsuspecting.

It's kind of amazing that the festival was the first of its kind, given that cute cat videos virtually rule the web, and have for years. It's good to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of some of the cat owners who post those videos, if only to find out they're just like everyone else. Mostly.

Loving cats takes a special kind of devotion, hence the reputation of some of the ladies who take that affection to the extreme. But, in the case of the half dozen women spotlighted, it looks like the rest of their lives are well in order.

Sure, there's the obligatory hipster-chick with rainbow hair who, naturally, fronts an alt-rock band. And the two ladies of indeterminate romantic status willing to go the extra mile when it comes to a beloved pet returning to its own vomit. Cats will do that, cute or otherwise.

It bodes well for the next festival. This time, there should be a few more "crazy cat guys" in attendance.
