Southern transplants and fans of southern cuisine will be thrilled to know that Lafayette, the Creole-Cajun eatery in the Chicago French Market, expands its traditional southern offerings with a customized grits station during the morning hours.
Commuters and those working in the West Loop can now create their own creamy concoction beginning with a layer of cheddar grits topped with a choice of house-roasted meats, fresh seafood, vegetables and herbs plus a spin on a customary Indian topping.
Choose from a variety of hearty mix-ins atop your cheesy grits including Pork Belly, Andouille Sausage, Boiled Shrimp, Roasted Vegetables, all sprinkled with scallions and parsley. Chefs Sahil Singh and Hiran Patel will put the finishing touch on their rendition of the comfort food by incorporating Shaved Boiled Egg, a staple in conventional Indian street food. The preparation includes softly grating hard boiled eggs to create perfect ribbons of egg over the grits, celebrating both southern and Indian kitchen traditions.
The grits station will be available beginning Tuesday, December 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Grits range from $5-$8.
