Fresh off a buzz of meeting supermodel Beverly Johnson, we were very excited to have backstage access to one of the best and possibly most underrated brands to show during New York Fashion Week, Custo Barcelona. Designing since the early 80s, the Dalmau brothers, Custo and David, are drawing strong reviews with the launch of their beautifully designed 2012 autumn-winter collection this week at Lincoln Center.
Pre-show and backstage, we witnessed an edgy touch to the classic fishtail braids done by celebrity hair stylist Duffy, who pulled braids apart to create a very Downtown look that will soon be copied by many. The very cool-girl hair had every woman backstage ooh-ing and aww-ing...wishing we were "that" girl. This coupled with dewy and bronzy makeup set the tone for the global-chic show to come.
The key fabric for the Custo Barcelona Fall 2012 collection is wool. One such item was a to-die-for green/black/gold metallic hooded jacket that we are still coveting. Tons of funky fur jackets also dotted the runway in beautiful whites and earthly colors. Speaking of color, this is such a key player in the worldly Custo collection. Shades of green, red, brown, black and metallics dominate the color palette and represent nature, love, Earth, and unity.
And you can never forget the front-row, which was packed with celebs both well-known stateside and internationally. America's Next Top Model judge, Miss "J" Alexander sat with New York Housewife Jill Zarin. Socialite and actress Tinsley Mortimer, along with Miss Universe, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, supermodel Almudena Fernandez, and singer Zak Ambrose all packed the Custo Barcelona show.
