Curves win big at the 2012 SAG Awards

I will readily admit that I rarely watch awards shows. I find them unbearably long and boring. They usually save the awards you've been waiting for til the END of the night, and I have the attention span of a 10 year old at times:-). What I typically do instead is tune in for the Red carpet arrivals and make my list for "Best Dressed"and then monitor my Twitter Feed to see who won. Don't judge me, you guys know you do the same thing! That being said, I was absolutely THRILLED with the amazing style choices of nearly curvy actress at the SAG Awards. Some of our favorite curvy Hollywood starlets didn't just shine in the style department. They racked up the some of the biggest awards of the night!

Octavia Spencer looked gorgeous in a platinum-colored Tadashi Shoji floor-length gown. Her evening gown choice sent multiple positive messages: 1) You can actually accentuate your curves WITHOUT having your cleavage leaping out and look AMAZING. 2) Curves are beautiful too! In a society obsessed with being thin, Octavia dares to be curvy and look great doing it. She also won "Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Supporting Role" for her portrayal of a sassy maid named Minnie in The Help. Her co-star Viola Davis beat out Meryl Streep for the Best Actress award. Octavia shared some of her sassiness and delightful humor in her red carpet interview with E! telling Ted Casablanca "Women would be a lot happier if they ate. I know I sure get a headache when I don't eat!" She admitted that she'd like to lose a little "around the middle" but feels sorry for women starving themselves to fit into society's beauty standards. You go Octavia!

Kate Winslet was arguably the best dressed woman at the SAG Awards (curvy or otherwise). Her plunge-necked Sapphire blue dress by Narcisco Rodriguez was sexy, simple and elegant! It flattered her pear-shaped figure perfectly. A curvy woman with a fuller bust line would have likely looked like a "lady of the evening" in this same dress. Kate pulls it off by slowing a little skin while still leaving something to the imagination, which is no easy task! To top it off, she took home the SAG award for "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries." Way to go Kate!

Amber Riley may not have won a SAG award for Glee, but she definitely scored an A+ for style on the red carpet! I love the fact that she chose to wear a slightly below-the-knee dress instead of the traditional "floor-length" gown. After all, who wants to have to worry about people stepping on your dress all evening? Many times curvy women are afraid to wear color and resort to "all black everything" in order to look slimmer. Amber has already proven that she's not shy when it comes to wearing vibrant colors. With her chic Badgley Mischka dress, she demonstrated how to wear black and still turn heads.

*sigh*

I REALLY wish Amber could have helped out Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy. Melissa wore an all-black dress too, but it had no umph to it. The slight draping in the front was nice but in the end, the dress just had way too much fabric and looked like a tent or some living room curtains! Instead of this black dress slimming her down, it actually made her look bigger. Love Melissa McCarthy, but this dress was a no-go for me.

Sofia Vergara must get an honorable mention on this list! She's not "plus-size", but she is a very curvaceous woman who excludes confidence from her pores EVERY time she steps on the red carpet! Sofia's fuchsia Marchesa gown added a delightful pop of color to the red carpet and flattered her curves flawlessly.
